University of Hartford Students Win International Risk Management Competition
Four students from the University of Hartford's Barney School of Business are the winners of the 2021 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge. The UHart team competed against 18 other universities from around the world and successfully delivered their risk management strategies to leaders in the profession. The Challenge was an eight-month-long battle to develop and present the most comprehensive risk management program based on a proprietary case study. This year, the Challenge was hosted by the RIMS Diversity and Inclusion Council and concerned Spencerville, a fictitious American city based on civic and demographic data from real U.S. cities provided by public sector risk managers.

Alyssa Viscardo Wins UHart Business Pitch Competition
Alyssa Viscardo '23 is the winner of this year's University of Hartford Hawks Hunt Business Pitch Competition. Viscardo pitched a product called "LifeLine." LifeLine is wearable technology in various forms such as scrunchies, bracelets, and watchbands that connect with an app through which the user can call police or contacts to give their exact location.

Civil Engineering Students Attend New England Water Environment Association Annual Conference
Civil engineering students from the University of Hartford's College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture attended the New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) Annual Conference and Trade Show in Boston on Jan. 27 and 28. They also participated in a student poster competition with posters that summarized their water quality engineering laboratory projects from the fall semester.

Hartford Art School Student Wins $1,000 Purchase Prize
Work by some of the University of Hartford's most talented art students were selected for this year's Goldfarb Juried Student Exhibition. Two of these students were awarded $1,000 Purchase Prizes, and their art is now part of the University of Hartford's permanent collection. The exhibition, which runs through Feb. 20 in the Joseloff Gallery, represents a variety of disciplines.

Design Expo Award Winners Announced
Jordaine Wisdom '23, Ryan Douglas '23, and Johann Strasser '23 received the top award for their class during the CETA Design Expo, an event hosted by the University of Hartford's College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture every fall. The Expo gives first-year students their first opportunity to work on a design challenge as a team. Wisdom, Douglas, and Strasser were honored for their gesture-controlled robotic arm.

UHart Students Contributing to Research on the Opioid Problem in Connecticut
Through the University of Hartford's Center for Social Research, students and faculty are studying the best practices for operating recovery houses in Litchfield County, located in northwest Connecticut. Criminal justice students Mason Brooks '20 and Kylie Roosa '20 are working with the Litchfield County Opiate Task Force (LCOTF) to identify and implement best practices for recovery and sober homes.

University of Hartford Mechanical Engineering Students Receive Pratt & Whitney Scholarships
Pratt & Whitney, a division of United Technologies (UTX), has gifted $100,000 to a scholarship program for students in the University of Hartford's Mechanical Engineering program in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA). The scholarship program aims to foster diversity and inclusion in the field of engineering. Six sophomores and juniors have been awarded $10,000 scholarships and named Pratt & Whitney Scholars. The remaining scholarship funds will be used for scholarships in future academic years.
